“The Mechanic” HD Trailer Starring Jason Statham and Ben Foster

The remake of the Charles Bronson film of the same name had a trailer released earlier this year, and it reminded me that Ben Foster has not grown into the actor I thought he would. Watching TV in the 90s you might have seen Foster as a little pipsqueek on a Disney show called Flash Forward (with Firefly’s Jewel Staite). Foster showed a knack for comedic timing and general affability. I don’t think anyone would have guessed he would develop a hard edge, hit the weights and become a stoic badass in films like 3:10 to Yuma and Alpha Dog. He was so convincing in those films that I am no longer surprised that he is going side by side with action star Jason Statham.

Sure this film looks like yet another in a series of Statham’s high octane action films, but Foster has had better luck at choosing roles than the beefy Statham. So, I’m hoping for a bit of a surprise with this one.

Synopsis:

Arthur Bishop (Jason Statham) is a ‘mechanic’ – an elite assassin with a strict code and unique talent for cleanly eliminating targets. It’s a job that requires professional perfection and total detachment, and Bishop is the best in the business. But when his mentor and close friend Harry (Donald Sutherland) is murdered, Bishop is anything but detached. His next assignment is self-imposed – he wants those responsible dead. His mission grows complicated when Harry’s son Steve (Ben Foster) approaches him with the same vengeful goal and a determination to learn Bishop’s trade. Bishop has always acted alone but he can’t turn his back on Harry’s son. A methodical hit man takes an impulsive student deep into his world and a deadly partnership is born. But while in pursuit of their ultimate mark, deceptions threaten to surface and those hired to fix problems become problems themselves.
