  My Dad took my brother and I with him shopping for a toilet! It was 45 years ago so I guess it was considered safe to leave kids in the car then…anyway no debates about that…My brother got behind the wheel and put the car in gear and I jumped up in front and put the brake on right before it went through the plate glass window at Central Hardware on Kingshighway!! Boy was my Dads face red when they called him on the loud speaker! Boy were our butts red! I guess this wasnt such a funny story!!! LOL

  When I was five I went and had my long thick hair professionally cut for the first time. Upon returning home I found my baby sister napping in her bassinet and decided that she,too, needed a haircut. So I got out my little safety scissors and proceeded to cut off her ribboned topnot. Then thinking that wasn’t such a good idea, I scotch taped her hair back in place. My sister has never let me forget it and tells me to this day that’s why she has thin hair.

  Years ago, it was a “tradition” for all of us (kids and parents totalling 15) to sit around the TV and watch Porgy & Bess with Sidney Poitier and Sammy Davis Jr. If you remember the story, you know that Porgy, played by Poitier, was an invalid, who got around on a skateboard type object. Well, one year we sat watching, and my youngest sister, Vicky, sat with us. She was seven at the time and her understanding of the musical was limited. Literally, each step of the show was being explained to her. It got close to the end, when Sporting Life, played by Sammy Davis Jr., had “stolen” Bess (Dorothy Dandridge) and took her to New York. Unperturbed, Porgy set out to retrieve his woman. But, he had no money, so he set out after her on his skateboard. My sister watched this rather quietly, then asked “where is he going”? My mother stated, “he’s going to New York, after his girlfriend”. Vicky was quiet again, watching Porgy push his way down the road. Then she asked the ten-million dollar question. “Ma, how FAR is New York?” My mother tried not to laugh, then she said, “I guess it’s pretty far”. The reality of the question and response hit all of us at the same time. The remarks went from “man, is he going to be tired!”, to “he’s going to have some huge arm muscles when he gets to New York”, to “I hope he has some bandages for the callouses on his hands”, to “I hope he doen’t get to any hills, cause he’s in trouble!” We all laughed until we cried, culminating with Mom (cheerfully) running us all to bed. That was around 1967 and I sure miss those “special” family moments. Thank you.

  Without a doubt the time the old
  man dropped his camera off the train out at Grant’s Farm….like
  a fool he jumps off the train to retrieve it ( a serious rules
  violation ), in doing so he managed
  to arouse the need for horizontal
  refreshment in a nearby MOOSE.
  He did get the camera and remained
  anatomically intact but received
  a severe tongue-lashing from
  the authorities.

  My mother has adopted 3 kids me and my 2 sisters. We are all very close. So one day my mom took us shopping when I was like 7 years old My sisters were 6 and 4 at target well my youngest sister was in the cart and my other sister and I were standing by it. Mind you my middle sister did not understand english, or so we thought, because we had just gotten her a month before. But anyways….
  But we all knew what toys were and where they were. so we decided not to wait for our mother and took the cart with my youngest sister in it and ran towards the toys. My mom chased us all the way to the toy aisle. with my youngest sister screaming “Faster, faster she gonna get us!!!!” and us running with the cart we really couldnt see where we were going. when she finally caught us all the store people were laughing because of what my little sister was saying and me and my other sister had to look out the side because we couldnt see over. well me and my youngest sister got in trouble and my middle sister didnt.
  well we were telling funny stories the other night and my middle sister told this one.
  we couldnt believe it because we thought she didnt understand but she says she did and just acted like she didnt so she wouldnt get into trouble.
  I MEAN WE STILL TO THIS DAY…..12 YEARS LATER LAUGH SO HARD ABOUT THIS ONE!!!
