I heard Drew’s first motion picture directing effort is pretty good so I’d like to check it out. Plus, I’d like to see if Ellen Page can play a character other than hip, well cultured youth meets vast, pretentious vocabulary. My fingers are crossed.

I can’t wait for Juliette Lewis’ IRON MAVEN to introduce herself
    to Ellen Page’s PELVIC BLISS.

This will be fabulous! Takes my thoughts back to the skating rink each Friday in the sixth grade… but with presumably more grunting and blood.

In the words of Jim Croce . . .

Gonna tell you a story that you wont believe
But I fell in love last friday evenin
With a girl I saw on a bar room t.v. screen

Well I was just gettin ready to get my hat
When she caught my eye and I put it back
And I ordered myself a couple o more shots and beers

The night that I fell in love with a roller derby queen
Round and round, oh round and round
    The meanest hunk o woman
    That anybody ever seen
    Down in the arena

First of all, it’s hard not to want to see a movie with so many talented women in it. I’ve loved Ellen Page’s acting ever since I saw her in Hard Candy. Drew Barrymore gets a chance to show off her chops behind the camera, and then there’s Kristen Wiig, who is always hilarious.

Next, there’s location. Gravois Bluffs has to be one of my new favorite theaters in the area, not to mention the fact that it’s close. It would be nice to be able to see a screening and not have to drive all the way out to Chesterfield or Des Peres. I usually skip screenings when I get a chance to see them because of the distance.

The Last Time I can remember a good hot roller derby chick flick was “Kansas City Bomber” with Raquel Welch. Here’s hoping that Ellen Page gives another ball busting performance like she did in “Hard Candy”
